Code of Conduct
Our commitment to fair play, respect, and sportsmanship
1. General Code of Conduct
As a player/coach/spectator/official in the Chicago Netball Club Inc. ("CNC"), you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct during any activity held or sanctioned by CNC:
- 1.1 Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
- 1.2 Be fair, considerate and honest in all dealing with others.
- 1.3 Be professional in, and accept responsibility for, your actions.
- 1.4 Be aware of, and maintain an uncompromising adhesion to, CNC standards, rules, regulations and policies.
- 1.5 Operate within the rules of netball, specifically the USANA Rules, which are available upon request from your team captain or any board member, except where displaced CNC by-laws or modifications.
- 1.6 Refrain from any form of harassment of others.
- 1.7 Refrain from any behavior that may bring CNC, a participating team or associated organizations into disrepute or that is detrimental to the image of the program (unsportsmanlike, abusive, violent, etc).
- 1.8 Understand the repercussions if you breach, or are aware of any breaches of, this code of behavior (see section 3).
2. Player Code of Conduct
In addition to CNC's General Code of Conduct, you must meet the following requirements in regard to your conduct as a player during any activity held or sanctioned by CNC:
- 2.1 Play equally hard for yourself and your team. Your team's performance will benefit, so will you.
- 2.2 Respect the rights, dignity and worth of others regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
- 2.3 Treat all players as you would like to be treated. At all times be fair and supportive of other players.
- 2.4 Conduct yourself in a professional manner relating to language, temper, and sportsmanship; control your temper, verbal abuse or deliberate contact and abusive behavior on the court is unacceptable.
- 2.5 Play according to the rules of netball and the principles of fairplay.
- 2.6 Never question or argue with an umpire. If you are concerned, talk to your captain in the next break of play. Captains should approach the umpires with any concerns in breaks of play.
- 2.7 Be a good sport, cheer all good play from your team and the opposition.
- 2.8 Appreciate and co-operate with your team-mates, officials, and umpires, there would be no game without them.
- 2.9 Take responsibility for your performance on and off the court.
- 2.10 Care for and respect the equipment provided to you as part of the CNC competition.
3. Captain Code of Conduct
Captains are held to the highest level of sportsmanship and fair play. In addition to CNC's General Code of Conduct and Player Code of Conduct, team captains must meet the following requirements in regard to conduct during any activity held or sanctioned by CNC:
- 3.1 At all times captains will outwardly support the umpires and officials. Any concerns that a team captain has should be expressed in an appropriate manner to the officials in the break of play.
- 3.2 At no time is a team captain to encourage unsportsmanlike behavior by his/her team, including, but not limited to, disrespecting the umpires.
4. Penalties for Breaching this Code of Conduct
If a player/coach/spectator/parent/guardian acts in a manner that breaches of this Code of Conduct, the following penalties apply:
- 4.1 Umpires and the CNC President and Vice President have the authority to remove any player/coach/spectator/parent/guardian from the game.
- 4.2 A player/coach/spectator/parent/guardian can be suspended from the competition for a period of time as deemed appropriate by the CNC Board.
- 4.3 Penalties for breaches occurring after the final siren of the match in which the offender is involved may be more severe than penalties applied for breaches during the match.
- 4.4 Any player, official or other person responsible for deliberately causing damage to any equipment shall be required to pay the cost of repair or a charge towards such costs as determined by the CNC Board.
- 4.5 Persons concerned about officials/opposition players/spectators etc. should raise their concerns with the CNC President immediately. In the event of significant disputes/complaints, the pertinent matters should be stated in writing and delivered to the CNC President within forty-eight (48) hours of the match or incident concerned.
NB: This Code of Conduct is subject to amendment by the CNC Board, in accordance with the by-laws at any time, without prior notice.
Release and Waiver of Claims
IN CONSIDERATION of being permitted to participate in any way in any Chicago Netball Club, Inc. ("Chicago Netball Club, Inc.") and its subsidiaries, including but the Illinois Netball Association, Inc. and the Illinois Netball Club, Inc. activities (the "Activities") the adequacy of which is acknowledged, by completing registration the Player agrees as follows:
- 1. The Player understands the nature of the Activities and is qualified, in good health, and in proper physical condition to participate in such Activities. The Player further agrees and warrants that if, at any time, he/she believes the conditions to be unsafe, he/she will immediately discontinue further participation in the Activities.
- 2. The Player FULLY UNDERSTANDS that: (a) THE ACTIVITIES INVOLVE RISKS AND DANGERS OF SERIOUS BODILY INJURY, INCLUDING POSSIBLE PERMANENT DISABILITY, PARALYSIS, AND DEATH (the "Risks"); (b) the Risks may be caused by his/her own actions or inactions, the actions or inactions of others participating in the Activities or the conditions in which the Activities takes place; and (c) there may be OTHER RISKS AND ECONOMIC LOSSES either not known to the Player or not readily foreseeable at this time. The Player FULLY ACCEPTS AND ASSUMES ALL THE RISKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR LOSSES, COSTS, AND DAMAGES he incurs as a result of his/her participation in the Activities.
- 3. The Player is a current member in good standing in Chicago Netball Club, Inc. and will notify Chicago Netball Club, Inc., immediately if the Player is no longer a member in good standing. The Player further acknowledges that he/she is fully covered by his/her own medical and personal liability insurance policy or policies which cover any injuries or damages suffered or caused by the player's participation in the Activities. In this regard, Chicago Netball Club, Inc. disclaims any financial responsibility for the costs of medical treatment, hospitalization costs, ambulance, paramedics or any other expense arising out of or by virtue of an injury to the Player while participating in or preparing for the Activities.
- 4. THE PLAYER, ON BEHALF OF HERSELF/HIMSELF, HER/HIS AGENTS, HEIRS, EXECUTORS, ADMINISTRATORS, SUCCESSORS, REPRESENTATIVES AND ASSIGNS, HEREBY FULLY AND FINALLY RELEASES AND FOREVER DISCHARGES CHICAGO NETBALL CLUB, INC, AND ALL OF ITS RELATED COMPANIES OR BUSINESS ENTITIES, AND ALL OF ITS/THEIR OFFICERS, DIRECTOR, AGENTS, ATTORNEYS, CURRENT EMPLOYEES, FORMER EMPLOYEES, REPRESENTATIVES, LANDLORDS, TENANTS, AND ALL OF ITS/THEIR PREDECESSORS, SUCCESSORS, HEIRS, ADMINISTRATORS AND ASSIGNS (ALL OF WHOM ARE COLLECTIVELY REFERRED TO HEREIN AS THE "RELEASED PARTIES") JOINTLY AND SEVERALLY, IN THEIR INDIVIDUAL, FIDUCIARY AND CORPORATE CAPACITIES, FROM ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, KNOWN OR UNKNOWN, LIQUIDATED OR UNLIQUIDATED, ABSOLUTE OR CONTINGENT, BASED UPON ANY ALLEGED ACT OR OMISSION BY OR ON BEHALF OF ANY OF THE RELEASED PARTIES, OCCURRING ON OR AFTER THE DATE OF THIS RELEASE BY THE RELEASED PARTIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO ANY CLAIMS ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH THE ACTIVITIES PROVIDED BY CHICAGO NETBALL CLUB, INC TO THE PLAYER. THE PLAYER FURTHER WAIVES ANY RIGHT TO ANY FORM OF RECOVERY, COMPENSATION OR OTHER REMEDY IN ANY ACTION BROUGHT BY HER/HIM OR ON HER/HIS BEHALF CONTRARY TO THIS RELEASE AND AGREES TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD ALL RELEASED PARTIES HARMLESS FROM ANY LITIGATION EXPENSES, ATTORNEYS FEES, LIABILITY, DAMAGE OR COSTS INCURRED BY ANY RELEASED PARTIES AS A RESULT OF SUCH ACTION.
- 5. THE PLAYER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT SHE/HE IS OVER THE AGE OF 18 YEARS, HAS READ THIS AGREEMENT AND FULLY UNDERSTANDS ITS TERMS, UNDERSTANDS THAT HE/SHE HAS GIVEN UP SUBSTANTIAL RIGHTS BY SIGNING IT, HAS SIGNED IT FREELY AND WITHOUT ANY INDUCEMENT OR ASSURANCE OF ANY NATURE, AND HE/SHE INTENDS IT TO BE A COMPLETE AND UNCONDITIONAL RELEASE OF ALL LIABILITY TO THE GREATEST EXTENT ALLOWED BY LAW AND AGREE THAT IF ANY PORTION OF THIS AGREEMENT IS HELD TO BE INVALID, THE BALANCE, NOTWITHSTANDING, SHALL CONTINUE IN FULL FORCE AND EFFECT.
- 6. The Player understands that by taking part in Chicago Netball Club photos may be taken for use on social media and other club related posts. If you do not wish your photo to be used please reach out to the Chicago Netball Club board.
- 7. This Release shall be governed and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois. Any claims arising out of this Release shall submit to the jurisdiction of the appropriate court of law in and for Cook County, Illinois.
COVID-19 Waiver and Acknowledgement
Chicago Netball Club is taking reasonable measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 infection, including sanitizing equipment, and following applicable state and local health orders and protocols. However, the possibility of transmission cannot be eliminated. Athletes must be aware of and acknowledge the risks before participating in athletics.
By registering to participate in Chicago Netball Club, you acknowledge, accept, and agree to all the following:
Participation in athletics is purely voluntary. You are aware that you may be exposed to COVID-19 while participating in or attending these summer sessions. You understand that this exposure carries a risk of infection, serious illness, or death for both the athlete and their household members. Athlete agrees to assume any and all risks of infection, injury, or death, whether those risks are known or unknown.
I understand that the City of Chicago and this facility (British School South Loop) has specific rules regarding COVID-19 which may include: fully vaccinated individuals, no mask required. Unvaccinated individuals to wear a mask while in this facility; or all individuals to wear a mask while indoors - such rules subject to change based on city, state and facility guidelines. I confirm that by participating in this Chicago Netball Club I understand and will abide by such rules.
The Athlete will not attend Chicago Netball Club summer sessions if any of the following apply:
- The Athlete or any member of their household is exhibiting one symptom(s) of COVID-19 that first appeared within the last 10 days: fever (at or over 100.4°F or 38°C) or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, feeling tired, muscle or body aches, headache, sore throat, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, congestion or runny nose, or new loss of taste or smell.
- The Athlete or any member of their household has been diagnosed with COVID-19 and is currently positive for COVID-19 or has a suspected diagnosis of COVID-19 or pending COVID-19 test.
- The Athlete or any member of their household has within the last 14 days spent time with another individual who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or has a suspected diagnosis of COVID-19.
- The Athlete or any member of their household is currently under isolation or quarantine orders.
We acknowledge Chicago Netball Club, or State/Local/Federal authorities may determine to prohibit these sessions at any time. We also acknowledge Chicago Netball Club must comply with any mandates issued by any entity with the authority over athletics and agree to comply with any such directives even if issued after signature to this agreement.
I HAVE CAREFULLY READ THIS AGREEMENT AND FULLY UNDERSTAND ITS CONTENTS. I AM AWARE OF THE RISKS OF PARTICIPATING IN ATHLETICS DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. I AM ARE AWARE THAT THIS FORM CONTAINS A RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND WAIVER OF ALL CLAIMS. I AM COMPLETING THIS AGREEMENT VOLUNTARILY, FULLY AWARE OF THE RISKS AND MY RELEASE AND WAIVER OF ANY CLAIM AGAINST CHICAGO NETBALL CLUB, ITS EMPLOYEES, VOLUNTEERS, AGENTS, BOARD/COMMITTEE MEMBERS, OR OTHER RELATED ENTITIES.
Use of Data
- 1. By participating in Chicago Netball Club you acknowledge and agree to that following use of your personal information data:a. Chicago Netball Club will share your:
- Name
- Mobile phone number
- Preferred positions of play
With the Chicago Netball Club Board members and the captains and vice captains of each team (which may include fill in captains/vice captains). Your information will be used to set teams, keep game stats, for administrative records and to communicate with members regarding games, socials and club related activities.
- 2. As a full time club member you will be added to a text/WhatsApp message group for your team which shall be used for team related communications.
- 3. Pictures may be taken during games and socials and may be posted on social media and our website - if you prefer not to have your picture posted anywhere please inform a board member.
